Inclusive basketball success in Cardigan

THE ANNUAL 5×60 Basketball tournament was held in Lampeter Leisure Centre recently, with 5 teams competing from Tregaron, Lampeter, Cardigan and Penglais secondary schools.

There were pupils from Years 7 – 10 competing, many in their first competitive basketball fixtures, and it was pleasing to see the matches so closely-fought.

Penglais school were worthy winners on the night, winning all of their matches under the guidance of one of Penglais’ Young Ambassadors, Jess Wall. In second place were Lampeter, also coached by one of Lampeter’s Young Ambassadors, Oliver Griffith- Salter. In third place were Cardigan school, followed by two teams entered from Tregaron.

Well done to all pupils who took part, to which the message from the day was clear; Keep Playing! Also, a huge thank you to all coaches and umpires who were there on the night as well as those who help run the 5×60 Basketball clubs in schools.

There was also a story of success for Cardigan Secondary school who performed brilliantly at the All-Wales IZB Finals.

Congratulations must go to the side that took part in the new initiative of IZB (Inclusive Zone Basketball) and took part in the National IZB Finals in Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff on Wednesday (Apr 13) finishing fourth. The team are also Ceredigion Schools IZB Champions for the second year in a row.
