Last gasp Llangennech edge out Borderers

Whitland 17
Llangennech 18

WHITLAND were moments away from what would have been a brilliant victory against high flying Llangennech, but were denied by a Dan Griffiths try and brilliant Jamie Herbert touchline conversion with just five minutes remaining.

In a tight, cagey affair Whitland finally broke the deadlock with another great try from talented youngster Steffan James. The fly-half also added the extras, but it wasn’t enough to send the home side in at half time in front.

The second half also began with a Herbert penalty but Whitland were not deterred. They pressed hard and their persistence was rewarded when flanker Rhydian Davies crossed for a try, converted ably by James. A penalty was also added to give the Borderers a 17-11 lead.

When it seemed Whitland would grab the points they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as Llangennech crossed for the late pushover try and conversion. Llangennech showed their togetherness by going right to the end but Whitland will feel hard done by to come away with just a losing bonus point.
