Emlyn title charge back on track

Newcastle Emlyn 22
Loughor 15

NEWCASTLE EMLYN recovered from last weeks defeat at Tenby by dispatching of a well organised Loughor side who looked a far better side than their league position suggests.
The visitors started the game strongly and opened the scoring with a penalty from Peter Smiriglia following a period of sustained pressure in the Emlyn 22.
Despite starting slowly Emlyn started to work their way back into the game, but with Loughor still on top, it was against the run of play that the home side got off the mark with a try. Emlyn started to grow in confidence and as the well drilled Loughor blitz defence was rushing up fly half Rhydian Harries spotted gaps in behind. His expert placed grubber kick in behind Loughor bounced up perfectly for winger Jones, who showed a superb turn of pace to leave the fullback in his wake and cross for his and his sides second try, which was converted by fellow winger Dan Davies.
Loughor were back in the game, as a thundering tackle from Smiriglia saw the ball spill loose in contact. It was gathered by left winger Hedlam, who sprinted in from fully 70 metres to score his sides second.
Despite this try Emlyn were looking dominant, and when Dan Davies extended Emlyn’s lead with a well struck penalty with twenty minutes to go, the home support felt it was only a matter of time before Emlyn scored their fourth, bonus point try. It wasn’t to be and Loughor left with a well deserved bonus point of their own which moves them 6 points clear of the drop zone.
