LLANYBYDDER travelled to St George’s Field, Llanelli, for this second round WRU Bowl encounter with New Dock Stars on Saturday (Oct 6) and came away with a comfortable 26-0 win.
The visitors enjoyed the benefit of a strong wind in the first half and dominated possession and territory.
An early penalty for fly-half Llyr Tobias was quickly followed by a try for scrum half Llyr James after a neat move from an attacking scrum. The conversion by Tobias gave the visitors an early 10-0 lead.
Llanybydder continued to use the wind to dominate proceedings, with young locks Josh Jones and Dan Macadams securing clean line-out ball, leading to two further penalties for Tobias.
The half ended with excellent inter-play on halfway releasing full-back Dan Garside at pace. He was tackled just short of the try line, and scrum half Llyr James kicked the loose ball on for right wing Carwyn Blayney to dive on the ball for the second try. Celebrations were muted though as Garside had suffered a serious knee injury in the tackle.
In the second half, the home side enjoyed a far greater share of possession, but the visitors defended well, with all 15 players contributing to the defensive cause.
Replacement prop Tom Adams was lively in loose, and left wing Dafydd Adams had one excellent run down the left wing as the backs ran the ball from their own line.
Llanybydder secured the win, when the backs released wing Carwyn Blayney for his second try to complete a 26-0 victory.
Llany’s reward for their victory is a third round tie away to Nantgaredig, with that game taking place on Saturday, October 27.
On Saturday (Oct 6), Llanybydder return to League action with a home match against Cardigan.
New Dock Stars are also back in league action on Saturday as they host Amman United.
