Missed Tenby conversion hands win to Kidwelly

A MISSED conversion from Tenby gave Kidwelly victory by a single point in their game on Saturday (Oct 8).

The Pembrokeshire side had been trailing late on but a try brought them to within a point and the conversion would have given them victory.

However, from in front of the posts, Tenby were unable to convert and Kidwelly celebrated the win.

Dan Colley had earlier scored the first try of the game for Tenby and he scored a second soon after, both converted by Gwion Jones, to give his side a 14-0 lead.

Luke Dedman, making his 250th appearance for the club, then got his name on the scoresheet and the conversion from Jones pushed Tenby into a 21-0 lead.

However, a yellow card for Dan Colley on 30 minutes allowed Kidwelly back into the game.

James Owen and Dafydd Phillips both went over for unconverted tries to bring the score to 10-21 at half time.

Kidwelly stepped up in the second half and added another try from Richard Pearce to bring the score to 15-21.

James Owen then scored Kidwelly’s fourth to give his side a bonus point but although the conversion was again missed Kidwelly were now a point behind their opponents.

Pearced then grabbed his second try and Declan Smith added the extras to put Kidwelly 27-21 ahead.

Dan Colley then completed his hat trick of tries and it looked as if they would regain the lead with a simple conversion.

However, the conversion was missed and Kidwelly celebrated their third win of the season.

It keeps them in third place in the table while Tenby, although they picked up two bonus points, drop down to sixth.

On Saturday, October 15, both sides are in action in the WRU Cups. Tenby travel to Resolven while Kidwelly travel to Seven Sisters.
