Neyland beat Lawrenny off last ball to win thrilling contest

NEYLAND edged ahead of their rivals in the Division 1 title race after they beat Lawrenny off the last ball of their game on Saturday (May 21).

The last time the two sides met in Lawrenny it was the home side who got the win as they kept their title hopes alive but on this occasion it was Neyland who got the win.

Neyland won the toss and chose to field and that looked to be a good decision as they were able to bowl Lawrenny out for 111.

Kyle Marsh top scored for the home side with 56 while Tom Cole added 18 and Jamie Lewis finished unbeaten on 13.

Jack John did the damage for Neyland with figures of 3-22 while Patrick Hannon took 2-33 and Andrew Miller also claimed two wickets.

Neyland lost Nick Koomen and Ashley Sutton early in their reply, both falling to Rob Williams (3-12).

Lewis Page batted well for his score of 30 but he was run out by Will Allen.

Wickets continued to fall and Neyland soon found themselves on 58-6.

However, a seventh-wicket stand of 47 between brothers Sean and Patrick Hannon swung the game in their favour.

Patrick batted well for his score of 33 before falling to Kyle Marsh (2-17).

Sean Hannon had scored 15 but he was then bowled by Marsh, leaving Neyland on 106-8 with only a handful of runs needed to win.

They could only add two runs in the next three overs as Jack John and Geraint Rees held their nerve.

It came down to the last ball and it saw John hit a four to seal the win for Neyland.

On Saturday, May 28, Neyland host Haverfordwest while Lawrenny travel to Pembroke Dock.
