Neyland Under 14s celebrate treble-winning season

NEYLAND Under 14s have had an excellent season, winning the league, Pembrokeshire Cup and West Wales Under 14 Cup.

Their fantastic treble-winning campaign culminated on Saturday (Apr 30) when they beat Kilgetty 10-1 to finish the league season with an unbeaten record.

They scored maximum points in the Under 14’s league with a record of: Played 18; Won 18; Drawn 0; Lost 0; Goals For 173; Goals Against 10; Goal Difference 163; Points 54. Second were Hakin and third were Monkton Swifts.

The Under 14’s also won the Pembrokeshire Cup by beating Hakin 4-0 at Marble Hall last Wednesday (April 27) and lifted the West Wales Ray Nedin Junior Under 14 Cup on 5 April, by beating Ynystawe Athletic 1-0 at Llanelli’s Stebonheath Park.

Top goal scorers in the league were: Sammie Vaughan-Harries (31); Kian Evans (31); Zach Owen (28) and the top assists came from Kian Evans (21); Leo Power (19); Zach Owen (14). Statistics subject to ratification.

The Under 14’s played 28 games in all competitions (league and cup), winning all of them, a staggering achievement.

They scored a massive 223 goals and conceded a mere 14 to give a goal difference of a mouth-watering 209 goals in all competitions – sheer entertainment and a pleasure to watch. And three trophies to boot – by far and away the best team in Pembrokeshire and West Wales.

The Club are certain they are correct in stating that the “treble” is unique in the history of football in Neyland and Llanstadwell.

Possibly the nearest Neyland came to emulating this achievement was the youth team from 1947-50, when they won both the Wiltshire Cup and the league. They seem to recall that wonderful side remained unbeaten, but there may have been a draw or two along the way.

Many of those players went on to achieve bigger and better things, playing with professional Clubs in England and Wales, and winning a host of cups and medals.
