George North: Returned to score a bonus point try

GEORGE NORTH piled on the agony for the Scarlets as he raced away to score the bonus-point try that condemned his old side to second European whitewash in four seasons.

Northampton Saints knew they had to win with a bonus-point to keep alive any hopes of reaching the quarter-finals as one of the best runners-up and no sooner had Harry Mallinder plundered an interception try than the English Premiership team were on their way.

In the end further tries from George Pisi, Sam Dickinson and finally North set-up a comfortable 22-10 triumph for the Saints at Parc y Scarlets. They now have 19 points and hope to finish in the top eight to reach the quarter-finals in April.

As for the Scarlets, they last made the quarter-finals of the European Cup way back in 2007, when they won all six pool matches. In the nine seasons since then they have failed to win a game in three of the campaigns and have won 15 or their 54 games.

Scarlets grabbed a late consolation through prop Rhodri Jones which Aled Thomas converted to add to his earlier penalty.
