Reds give Cwm the blues in FAW Reserve league

Cwmamman United 1 Llanelli Town 3

LLANELLI TOWN proved too strong for Cwmamman United in the FAW Reserve league on Saturday (Aug 21) as they came away with a 3-1 win.

Cwm were finally presented with their Neath league title for pre Covid season 2019/20 before the match and a good crowd were then treated to an entertaining match with no quarter given which saw Llanelli’s stronger goal finishing take the 3 points.

It was a match where both sides created a number of good chances but without forcing too many key saves from the keepers.

The game started strongly and Cwm took the lead in the 9th minute when Kian Evans came out the stronger in a challenge with the keeper and scooped the ball into the net.

Within 5 minutes Llanelli had equalised when some good wing play saw the subsequent cross nodded in by Alfie Lloyd.

It became a case of Cwm’s speed of play and physicality against the patience and ball retention of the reds and Cwm were unlucky to see great play and testing crosses by Joe Lewis and Ashley Twigg go unrewarded.

Cam Jones suffered an injury had to be replaced by Rhydian Jones just before half time and Jones was immediately unlucky to just get under a cross and heading over.

The second half continued with both sides pushing forward and it was Llanelli who took the lead when some hesitance in the Cwm defence resulted in Alfie Lloyd scoring his second.

A great piece of interplay between Olly Dymond and Rhydian Jones then saw Dymond through on goal but his chip could not clear the keeper Kai Rees.

With Grant Rees marshalling the Cwm defence well and Corey Evans and Carl Jones strong at full back Cwm were hopeful of an equaliser but it was Llanelli who clinched the match when they pounced on a miss-pass and Jordan Sullivan stroked the ball home.

A good advert for the FAW Reserve League with the Reds deserving the win for their calm in front of goal.
