SCARLETS outside half Aled Thomas believes the Scarlets showed great character to come back into the game, and secure a victory, against Benetton Treviso on Friday evening (Mar 4).

A bonus point victory would have further cemented the region’s place in the top four putting distance between the leading pack and the chasers however it was not to be as Treviso kept themselves in the game with two tries from number 8 Barbieri.

Commenting on the performance outside half Aled Thomas said: “It was too close. We left some tries out there. We were a bit disappointed not to get the bonus point but the victory was the important thing. We got that in the end and showed enough character to come back into it to win the game.

“We had definitely hoped to kick on for the bonus point. We created enough chances but we need to be more clinical.

“I think maybe the boys understood the importance of the game and maybe we tried too hard on occasion, when things weren’t on. We need a little more composure and work through the phases rather than trying to score too early.

“What it does how is that we’re trying to play positive rugby but we do need to be more accurate.”
