THE GOLFING SEASON is well underway at Carmarthen Golf Club.

With the course being in excellent condition which augur’s well for the summer. Several competitions have already taken place and the early season pace setters include octogenarian Peter Ashley Jones showing the way in the Cotton Cup with an outstanding 68nett. At the other end of the age span junior golfer Jamie Dean took the Blenheim Cup again with a 68 nett.

In the Knight’s section there have been wins for Ian Ritchie (39pts) in the Tegfynydd Cup, and Nick Ingram (40pts) in the Bertie Butter’s Cup.

In the senior section Chris Smith won the first competition of the year, the Bill Naylon Salver 1.

The section entered two teams into the South Wales Classic and were given two very difficult away draws at Trefloyne and Garnant, but both performed admirably and came away with 2-1 wins, further difficult draws have been made for the second round with the A’s away in Cilgwyn and the B’s facing a strong Machynys A at home.

The Tiger’s A under the joint captaincy of Huw Smith and Richard Hopkin had an excellent 8.5-0.5 win against Trefloyne, but even more impressive was a 5-4 win away at South Pembs GC.
