Carmarthen Third XI 2

Swansea Uni Fourths 0

ON SUNDAY morning (Mar 12) Carmarthen Third XI hosted Swansea Uni Fourths, who won the first pushback.

Both sides started strong with all players working hard to gain possession. Carmarthen worked well as a team and put a lot of pressure on the Swansea defence early in the first half with many goal scoring opportunities being created.

Wing backs Anna Knuckles and Betsan Thomas made many runs towards the goal, past the Swansea defence in order to transfer the ball to forwards Ella Bailey, Maya Davies, Jamie Clarke and Megan Davies who were unfortunate not to score.

Carmarthen continued to put pressure on the students and were awarded a short corner from which Sophie Palmer took a strike at goal, only for it to be disallowed.

Molly Cressey-Rodgers worked tirelessly in midfield and the Carmarthen defence were strong throughout with Nia Sutton, Caitlin Marshall, Marianne Spratt and Captain Lowri Jones clearing the ball away from the D. The first half ended 0-0.

Carmarthen came back strong in the second half and maintained a strong press, leaving Swansea short of options. Carmarthen’s constant hard work was rewarded when the ball was passed from the top of the D to Ella Bailey who was on the post and quickly transferred it to Megan Davies for her to open the scoring, 1-0. Goalkeeper Deryn Cressey-Rodgers was impressive when called upon although the Carmarthen defence kept the Swansea attack at bay.

Tireless work by all the players paid off once again when Sophie Palmer scored Carmarthen’s second goal making it 2-0 for the home side. Betsan Thomas continued her hard work getting past the Swansea defenders and Anna Knuckles was strong throughout. Carmarthen played dynamically as a team and fully deserved the victory.

Swansea awarded Senior Player of the Match to Jamie Clarke for her constant work creating goal scoring opportunities and they awarded Junior Player of the Match to Betsan Thomas for her excellent performance.

Carmarthen also awarded Player of the Match to Betsan Thomas for her hard work getting past the Swansea defence.
