Youngsters: Showing the way

ON SATURDAY (Mar 18), Carmarthen 1st XI travelled to Milford for what they knew would be a tough game.

Carmarthen had first pushback, with Milford shutting them down early and turning the ball over.

The first 10 minutes saw Milford dominating and bombarding the defence. Keira Griffiths, Carol Jones and Eleanor Phillips worked as a strong defensive unit as directed by Jackie in goal clearing every ball out of the ‘D’ and up to the midfield.

As the half went on, Carmarthen found their rhythm, settling into their attacking play. Sophie Palmer and Catrin Davies controlled the centre allowing good passes out wide to both Efa Mullin and Rhian Moremon.

The links began to form with the forwards, with Megan Davies being in some perfect positions to receive the ball.

Carmarthen were unlucky not to score on several occasions, with plenty of shots on target from Maya Davies, Beck Cartland and Ffion Church. Carmarthen continued to press, and defended well as a unit.

A turnover ball led to a short corner where Megan Henry effortlessly put the ball into goal taking the score to 0-1.

Milford continued to fight, and the game was a very even one.

When Milford broke, they were quick and dangerous, but Carmarthen’s defence and midfield worked as a unit to close down any threats.

In the second half, Milford came out fighting, with Carmarthen trying to hold their own. A dangerous break saw a shot on goal which Jackie saved, but the rebound nearly saw the score draw level, had it not been for a Milford foot on goal line.

This was quickly turned around with Phillips driving the ball up field to the ‘D’ where it was crossed from Church to find Maya Davies who slotted the ball in to make it 0-2. Both teams continued to fight hard with a well-matched game.

Carmarthen put out a fantastic team performance, one of which the Captain was very proud of, and they were glad to hear the whistle go.
