The win at Rodney Parade against the side placed third in the table sees the Quins moved to within two points of Bridgend.

The Quins made an excellent start to the match and found themselves two scores ahead in the opening ten minutes.

With only two minutes on the clock, Lee Williams scored for the Quins and Craig Evans was successful with the conversion to give them an 8-0 lead.

Gavin Thomas was next to score five minutes later and Evans was again on hand to add the conversion for a 16-0 lead.

The hosts responded after 30 minutes when Brendan Lampitt scored Newport’s first try of the game and Arwel Robson added the extra two points.

Early in the second half, the Quins extended their lead once more when Craig Evans slotted over a penalty.

Both sides battled away in the remainder of the half but the next score did not come until ten minutes from the end.

Elliot Frewen made his way over the line but the conversion from Arwel Robson was missed and the score stayed at 14-18.

A minute later, the Quins had their third try of the game when Lee Williams went over and Dale Ford was successful with the conversion.

Newport hit back and Frewen grabbed his second try in the closing minutes and the conversion from Arwel Robson made it 22-26.

That was the last of the action and the Quins hung on for just their fifth win of the season.

The Quins travel to Cardiff on Saturday, and will be in a confident mood as they look to move away from the bottom two.
