Fun Run: The Junior Fun Run will return on June 28

FOLLOWING a record number of participants at last year’s staging, the Ammanford Junior Fun Run makes a welcome return in a fortnights time with an extended invitation being put out to all.

It takes place on the evening of Wednesday, June 28, at the Amman Valley Leisure Centre in Ammanford, on the running track behind the swimming pool.

The fun run, still going strong, is organised by the local running club, Amman Valley Harriers and has seen it develop into a popular sporting event in Carmarthenshire with a large turnout from runners who return year after year, whatever their ability.

Registration for all is on the evening opening an hour before the beginning with the first race getting underway at 6.30pm with presentations being made on race conclusion. There is an entry fee of £2.50 per athlete.

Once again this year, the junior fun run is being sponsored by Noelwyn Daniel at Healthy Life Activities who will also provide the medals and race commentary.

Under new organisation with changes to the lap numbers in 2016, the age groups & distances remains the same as follows: Reception & Under – 1 Lap (400m), Years 1 & 2 – 2 laps (800m), Years 3 & 4 – 2 laps (800m), Years 5 & 6 – 2 laps (800m), Years 7 & 8 – 2 laps (800m). There will be medals to all finishers and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Years 1-8.

A spokesman for the upcoming event said: “Amman Valley Harriers are pleased to be working in partnership with Healthy Life Activities again this year to put on the junior races for our youngsters with all finishers rewarded with a medal.

“It’s a great opportunity for children of all ages to get involved in a local, friendly family event in Carmarthenshire, ranging from those in reception to the more experienced club runners in years 7 and 8. It is hoped that the weather will be favourable on the evening and numbers will be matched from 2016 with local schoolchildren supporting the event as well as further afield.”

All schools in the county have received full information and event posters. Anyone that has queries can contact the organisers at [email protected] or [email protected]. Information can also be found on the Carmarthen Harriers website and the local club social media pages.
