Aberystwyth Harbour survivor ‘devastated’ over friend’s death

Aberystwyth Atlantic 85 class lifeboatTHE WIFE of a man who was rescued after an empty speedboat was reported to be circling in Aberystwyth Harbour has paid tributes to his best friend who sadly died in the incident.

Bill Davies and Alan Jones were pulled from the sea on Wednesday morning (Aug 31) after reports of the empty boat at 9:30am.

Aberystwyth lifeboat, the Welsh Air Ambulance, Dyfed-Powys Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service were involved in the operation.

Amanda Jones thanked the RNLI on social media for saving her husband and said: “Alan has lost his wingman, his best man and he is in pieces.”

She went on to say her “beautiful brave amazing husband” attempted to keep his friend out of the water, but sadly he “died in his arms and we are utterly, utterly heartbroken.”

She continued: “He has left his beautiful wife and we are never ever going to get over it. We all need time, supported by those close, to try and come to terms with what has happened and hope we will be given the privacy we need at this horrendous time.

“I am externally grateful to the RNLI for bringing my husband home to me and just devastated it was too late for Bill.”
