Borth: Two caught fishing illegally on the Dovey

shutterstock_105064190TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of illegal fishing following a joint operation between Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and Dyfed Powys Police.

Enforcement officers from NRW, along with officers from Dyfed Powys Police seized nets, fishing equipment and a sea trout on the river Dovey, near Borth

They have been bailed until August 5, pending further inquiries.

Matt Roberts, North Environmental Crime Team leader, Natural Resources Wales, said:

“Sea trout, or sewin, are iconic species in our rivers in Wales and they attract anglers from across the world – bringing a much needed boost to the rural economy.

“To combat the decline in sea trout numbers any fish that are caught must be released.

“And only fishermen with the correct licence are permitted to take these fish.

“If anyone else sees any illegal fishing or something suspicious they should call the Natural Resources Wales hotline on 0800 807060.”
