STUDENTS at Coleg Sir Gar’s motor vehicle centre at the college’s Pibwrlwyd campus in Carmarthen, have been given an insight into the role of an AA patrol technician.

Stephen Noel, a prestige patrol technician with the AA, visited the centre with his company vehicle and demonstrated some of the equipment used for roadside repairs and recovery operations. These included diagnostic equipment and the use of GPS to locate broken down vehicles.

Stephen is currently one of only 27 prestige patrol technicians within the AA and with years of experience, he could offer students extensive examples and situations that he has been challenged with from cars stranded in flood water to working with the emergency services and assisting AA members at the roadside. He also shared an insight into the organisation including training and career pathways.

Keith Griffiths, Coleg Sir Gâr motor vehicle lecturer, said: “The AA is a leader in its field and it is important that out learners are informed about career options and get a first hand insight into other roles within the motor vehicle industry.”

Coleg Sir Gâr would like to thank Stephen and his managers at the AA for their cooperation in giving this opportunity to the students.
