DYFED-POWYS POLICE ‘requires improvement’ to keep people safe and reduce crimes, a review has concluded.
In the same report, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) concluded that South Wales, North Wales and Gwent police forces were ‘good’.
HMIC were judging the forces in four aspects, which were:
- How the forces prevented crime and anti-social behaviour
- How they investigated crime and managing offenders
- How they protected vulnerable people and supported victims
- How they tackled serious and organised crime
Although it was deemed that Dyfed-Powys were ‘good’ at preventing crime and tackling anti-social behaviour, as well as responding to serious and organised crime, it was said they ‘required improvement’ in the remaining two areas.
In response to the report, Dyfed-Powys Police said it was ‘very aware of the work that remains ahead of us’.
The Deputy Chief Constable of Dyfed-Powys Police, Darren Davies, said: “The report identifies a number of areas of positive progress and good practice, but there remains the need for yet further improvement.
“The inspection was conducted some months ago, and we have and will continue to take robust steps to address the areas for improvement with the support of partners, staff and communities.”
New initiatives were also being introduced to ‘to ensure that we get the basics right in all our interactions with our communities, protect the vulnerable and deliver a high quality police service for all.’
