CARDIGAN’S Festive Fortnight, a Creative Cardigan project which is being funded by the Welsh Government through Visit Wales’ Tourism Product Innovation Fund, was a huge success for the town.The two-week event included a Lantern parade and fireworks, a Christmas fair at Cardigan Castle and the opening of St Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival.
The project aimed to encourage partnership working and innovative ideas which will have a greater impact and attract more visitors to the area.
The parade saw over 1,000 people lining the streets to watch the spectacle. With over 600 lanterns in total, the procession was accompanied by drummers, accordions and pipes.
The theme of the parade, the Eisteddfod, went down a treat and was the inspiration for giant crown lanterns and musical instruments (a lute, triple harp and Irish harp) made by students at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi and Small World Theatre.
The Small World Theatre created a flying dove to lead the parade, a soaring angel and an Eisteddfod chair inscribed with the late Dic Jones’ words.
There was also a mass of pyramid lanterns and stars which were made in workshops with community groups. Amongst the groups were The Guides, St Mary’s Church, Area 43, children’s circus group and Ysgol Gynradd Aberteifi.
