CUSTOMERS of a mobile phone repair stall in Haverfordwest’s Riverside Market have been left concerned about their handsets after the outlet suddenly closed.

Following weeks of speculation as to what happened to the employee who was running Fone Bitz, the police have confirmed that an arrest was made at the end of last year for immigration offences.

Since then, customers have not been able to retrieve mobile phones which were left at the stall for repairs and upgrades.

A Home Office spokesman told The Herald in a statement: “Immigration Enforcement officers were contacted by Dyfed-Powys Police on Sunday, December 20, in order to question a man who was being held by police at Haverfordwest police station. The man was a 31-year-old Indian national who was in the UK illegally.

“He was transferred to immigration detention to await removal from the UK.”

A council spokesman said: “Pembrokeshire County Council is aware that a man working at the Fone Bitz stall has been detained by the authorities. However, the owner of the business has told the council that he is happy to be contacted by customers who have concerns about their personal property left at the stall for work to be undertaken. The owner’s contact details can be obtained either from Pembrokeshire County council’s estates surveyor Tim Bullock on 01437 775878 or by visiting the market and speaking to the duty caretaker.”
