Lidl confirm plan to move to Friars Park

LIDL UK has today (Apr 19) confirmed that it will officially submit a planning application for its new store on Friars Park, Carmarthen, in May.

The application is currently subject to a 28-day consultation phase prior to the formal submission and those who wish to share any feedback on the plans can do so at www.carmarthen.lidl.co.uk

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Paul Hebblethwaite commented: “We are committed to working with both the Council and local residents to deliver a new supermarket in Carmarthen, which will allow for a larger, more modern store and enhanced shopping experience, whilst providing customers with the full range of quality Lidl products at unbeatable prices.

“We look forward to receiving feedback on our plans before formally submitting our proposal with Carmarthenshire County Council.”

The plans see the store move from its current position on Priory Street to Friars Park. The sales area of the store will also increase in size from 997m² to 1,325m².

In addition, the supermarket will feature facilities including an instore bakery, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles as well as improved welfare facilities for employees.

Lidl UK has experienced continued growth over the years as consumers flock to the supermarket to discover its great value products – more than two thirds of which are British sourced – ranging from quality fruit and vegetables, to premium wines from its much coveted Wine Tour collections.

Its ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl’s continued growth in the UK with 10.3% increase in sales year on year and market share of 5.3%.
