Life Rings: Replaced three times in the last month

PEMBROKE TOWN COUNCIL has urged anyone who has seen people throwing life rings into the Pond to report it.

The rings have had to be replaced three times in the last month, much to the displeasure of the Town Council. The County Council has reviewed the situation on a number of occasions and has issued another warning following the latest replacement.

The statement from the council reads: “Pembrokeshire County Council is responsible for the Mill and Castle Ponds at Pembroke and the provision for life saving equipment. “We reviewed the life ring provision at Pembroke Mill Pond some six years ago after a spate of vandalism left many pieces of equipment missing, inadequate or useless. In 2008, for instance, over 40 pieces of equipment were tampered with.

“After the review, we determined to leave one ring either side of Pembroke Bridge where they were in view of the CCTV cameras. This was successful in that those rings were not interfered with. “We were recently asked by Pembroke Town Council to review the provision and after consultation with our Health and Safety officer we added an extra ring on the Barrage. “Since December 9, 2015, three rings have gone missing from there. We put the latest replacement one back on January 4, 2016. “It is illegal to remove, use or tamper with items of life saving equipment and Pembrokeshire County Council will not hesitate to contact the police should any perpetrators be identified at Pembroke Mill Ponds or elsewhere across the county.”
