Pensioner ‘grunted like pig’ during sex attack

A PENSIONER who ‘grunted like a pig’ while sexually assaulting a woman who was trying to help him find a taxi was jailed for three months last week.

Appearing before magistrates in Llanelli on Thursday (Aug 30) 69-year-old St Clears resident Emrys Phillips pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault, and admitted breaching his bail conditions.

The court heard that Phillips’ victim, who had been visiting the cinema with her boyfriend that evening, was ‘shocked and disgusted’ by his behaviour.

Prosecuting, Dennis Davies told magistrates that on July 26 Phillips approached the couple in Merlin’s Walk, asking them for help finding a taxi.

He appeared to be drunk, and they guided him to the bus station, but there were no taxis present, so they phoned one and waited with him.

Phillips was poking the woman’s breast and asking her name at this point, but she dismissed his behaviour because he was clearly intoxicated.

However, he then put his arms around her waist. She told Phillips that this was ‘too much’, and began filming his behaviour on her phone. Phillips started making thrusting motions and ‘grunting like a pig’ while grabbing his penis though his trousers.

Shortly afterwards a taxi pulled up, and Phillips grabbed the woman and kissed her on the cheek, before putting his hands between her legs and touching her privates.

In a statement to police, she said that she had been ‘shocked and disgusted’ by Phillips’ behaviour.

Phillips was interviewed the following day, and said he had no recollection of the incident, and did not know where he had been between 10pm and 1am due to the extent of his drunkenness.

When shown a picture from the complainant’s phone, he said it ‘could have been me’ but couldn’t remember.

However, he told officers that he did sometimes make pig noises in the pub.

Phillips’ solicitor Andrew Isaac told the court that his client’ life had been blighted by a ‘significant alcohol problem’ for many years.

He added that the incident was out of character, and Phillips wished to ‘apologise unreservedly’ for his actions.

Mr Isaac accepted that any intervention from the probation service was unlikely to be of any help.

On release from prison, Phillips will pay costs and compensation totalling £365. He will also have to register as a sex offender for the next seven years.
