Police say ‘no offences’ took place following alleged child abduction attempt

POLICE have said that ‘no offences’ took place in Tesco on Tuesday evening (Dec 5) after a mother alerted to staff to a possible abduction attempt on her child.

The incident, which took place at approximately 6:30pm, resulted in Tesco being put in lockdown as a police cordon was put in place.

Reports from the scene suggested that officers were carrying out vehicle checks.

The Herald understands the child was not taken and there was no physical contact made.

Following an investigation, the scene was released at around 8:30pm and customers were permitted to enter and leave the store.

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police has carried out extensive enquiries following a report of alleged attempted child abduction at Tesco, Carmarthen, on December 6.

“Officers are satisfied that no offences took place.

“The mother of the child has been updated.”
