A CARMARTHEN man has admitted assaulting his elderly father and stealing his pension ‘to buy booze’.
Gary Michel Davies, aged 51, had been due to stand trial at Swansea Crown Court accused of robbery.
But Davies admitted assaulting Brynmor Robert Davies at his home in Ammanford causing him actual bodily harm and the theft of an unspecified amount of money.
Stephen Rees, prosecuting at Swansea Crown Court, said the pleas were acceptable and a trial would not be necessary.
Davies, of Hanover Court, Russell Terrace, Carmarthen, will be sentenced on January 24.
Judge Peter Heywood described the offending as ‘particularly disgusting’ and told Davies he should be ashamed of attacking his own father and stealing at least some of his pension ‘just to buy booze’.
Davies’ barrister, James Hartson, said he deeply regretted the assault and since his arrest had been alcohol-free.
He said Davies was currently unemployed but used to be a landscape gardener and wanted to take up the profession again.
Judge Heywood told Davies he had a prison sentence in mind but may suspend it.
Davies was granted bail until the sentencing hearing but told to stay away from his father.
