PLANS to build 94 homes at a private school in North Wales could be called in by the Welsh Government.
Plans to build on land at Rydal Penrhos in Colwyn Bay were submitted to Conwy Council by Castle Green Homes in the spring of 2022.
They sought permission to demolish school buildings and replace them with 63 homes and 31 apartments.
The developers want to knock down an extension to Pwllycrochan House as well as the Preparatory School Science and IT building, the Assembly Hall, and associated outbuildings to make room for the homes.
But the planning application has never been debated at a committee meeting and is still marked as ‘registered’ on the council’s website.
The Welsh Government has now received a request for the matter to be dealt with.
Numerous residents and neighbours object to the plans and have written to the council.
One recent letter from resident Gina Ward worried about the sewage systems coping if more homes were built.
“I am writing with concerns about the recent Storm Babet and all the flooding that came with it,” she said.
“I am not sure how the area will cope with rainfall in the future if the proposed development of extra homes goes ahead and where all the extra water will go.”
The Oakwood Residents Group also shared concerns about flooding.
Judy and Tony Allen also wrote to the council concerned about the loss of mature trees.
Mrs Roberts of Oakwood also had concerns about the height of the proposed buildings.
Mr and Mrs Smith worried about water running onto their property, claiming there was a natural water table.
Mrs Tina James said the development would affect privacy, reduce sunlight, cause flooding, and create access problems on the road, devaluing her property.
“This development will affect the privacy of my house as my home will be overlooked by members of the public who visit the open green space that is to be developed directly behind my property,” she said.
A Welsh Government spokesman said: “Welsh ministers have received a request to call in these applications.
“The request is under active consideration.
“We can’t comment any further as this may prejudice any decision that may be taken.”
Rydal Penrhos declined to comment.
Conwy County Council and Castle Green Homes were contacted for a comment.
