Tenby Brewery pours the glass just a little bit higher to celebrate eight years in business

When it comes to fine ales, Wales certainly know how to pack the punches, boasting more independent craft breweries than either England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

But Pembrokeshire seems to be pouring the glass just that little bit higher thanks to the incredible ales produced at the Tenby Brewing Company. And this week, the company celebrates their eighth year in business.

Eight years ago, James Beavan and Robert Faulkner decided to ditch their corporate jobs and set up their own brewery in the heart of Tenby.

And their commitment and forward-drive is certainly paying off having opened the ugely popular ‘Sandbar and Cwlbox’ bar and restaurant as well as consistently expanding their range of ales to a superb standard.

“We can’t quite believe it’s been eight years since quitting our jobs and putting what little cash we had together and getting hold of our original brewery,” they commented this week.

During this time, the brewers have brewed around 2,000,000 pints, opened three bars and created 34 jobs.

Their signature beer is undoubtedly the clever name-play ‘Son of a Beach’ which certainly makes a statement in the packaging stakes but also in its taste which combines a fruitiness with the strong presence of Simcoe, hailed as the king of the hops.

‘Yeah Mango’ has also been highly rated by critics as a result of its delicious mango fruitiness with an ultra-creamy texture.

Other beers include the Paradiso, the strong Hammerhead (6%) and the Clean Break, described by the brewers as ‘an honest pilsner’.

Meanwhile, as the brewery continues to make headway in the real ale connoisseurs’ itinerary, beer lovers can rest assured that the product being brewed at Tenby is exceptional.

“One of the leading crafts beers in Wales,” stated Wales Ales when they reviewed the company last year.

You can’t get much better than that!
