Senedd on St David’s Day: Celebrating diverse communities across Wales

THIS St David’s Day, the voices of diverse communities from across Wales will be celebrated in the Senedd.

As well as a St David’s Day message from the Llywydd, Elin Jones MS, photographer, filmmaker and poet, Zillah Bowes will be launching a new exhibition, commissioned by the Senedd.

Zillah’s exhibition Gwawr / Dawn features photographs of people from all over Wales, taken outside before and after sunrise. Using dawn light, Zillah marks the beginning of a new Senedd term, as well as people’s hopes and aspirations for Wales’s post-pandemic future. The artwork will be on display at the Senedd until Easter.

The day will also be marked by Hijinx Theatre company, one of Europe’s leading inclusive theatre companies, creating outstanding performances with learning disabled and/or autistic artists on stage and on screen, for Wales and for the world.

Hijinx has collaborated with Pontio Arts Centre and freelance artist Sarah Mumford to create a digital performance, bringing together artists and individuals from across Wales, to explore the theme “Your Voice”.

The performance embraces the rich and diverse communities in Wales, celebrating landscape, history and culture. The showing of this poignant film, which was a development of the Heb Ffiniau research project, will close the event.
