Drovers edge past Pontypridd to book semi-final spot

LLANDOVERY booked their place in the semi-finals of the WRU Premiership Cup on Saturday with hard-fought win over Pontypridd at Church Bank.

The visitors were backed by a good travelling support and all in attendance witnessed a close game between two good teams.

Kristian Jones opened the scoring on eight minutes with a penalty and ten minutes later he added a second to double the Drovers’ lead.

With just over half an hour gone Jones completed his hat trick of penalties for a 9-0 lead.

On the stroke of half time Ponty hit back with a penalty of their own which was scored by Dale Stuckey.

With a narrow lead at the break the Drovers were in control but it was still all to play for in the second half.

The only score of the half came on 53 minutes as Jones added his fourth penalty to make it 12-3.

That proved to be the end of the scoring but it wasn’t for the lack of trying.

Pontypridd had their chances but they were unable to turn them into scores as the Drovers held on for victory.

They will now go on to face Aberavon in the semi-finals on Saturday, March 26, kick off 2:30pm at Merthyr RFC.
