AFTER having 9 athletes nominated for the Carmarthen Town Annual Awards, Carmarthen Harriers Athletics Club came away with 8 winners in the event at Carmarthen Quins Rugby Club on Saturday (Jan 29).

The annual awards celebrate the achievements of successes by athletes and coaches in the Carmarthen area over the last 12 months.

There were eleven categories in all with two awards in each category, first and second, which made a total of twenty-two winners and each received an award from members of the Town Council.

The Harriers collected four first and four second positions, and all the athletes were nominated by the club for their success and hard work during the year on the track, indoors and on the cross-country fields.

In the Under 13 category, Daisy Thompson was first in the girls, with the first clean sweep from the club coming in the Under 13 Junior Male where club mates Iwan Glynn and Frank Morgan came first and second respectively.

In the Under 16 intermediate, Lauryn Davey won her category after a fine season, whilst Ben Thomas and Danielle Jones, who like Lauren have both represented Wales and Welsh schools this year, were both runners-up.

In the Under 19 youth age groups, Rachel Donnison was the winner while Ashraf Giles gained second position.

A new award for 2015 was created and it yielded more success for the Harriers as the Club Chairman Dr Hedydd Davies received a special Lifetime Achievement award for everything he has achieved within athletics in Carmarthenshire.
