Rob ‘Chunky’ Couzens makes opponent tap out

tap outON November 23, local Pembrokeshire man Rob Couzens travelled all the way to Swansea to take part in the “Adrenalin Spike Fight Night”.

Rob, who lives in Dinas, is affectionately known as ‘Chunky’ and is better known for his footballing and cricketing abilities. He has recently begun to fight on the MMA scene and, it’s fair to say, has taken to it like a duck to water.

Letterston AFCs central midfield dynamo was supported by team mates from the club at a packed out Oceana Nightclub in Swansea, and he did not fail to impress the crowd and his friends alike.

Fighting out of Spartans MMA Club in Cardigan, Chunky was accompanied to the ring by longtime trainer Antonio Velez.

The fight didn’t waste any time in getting brutal, the first round was especially gruelling for our Chunky and he was hit with some very big shots. But he came out more determined for the second round. Chunky started to take control of the fight and landed some big blows of his own, staggering his opponent. Thinking like the well trained fighter he is, Chunky managed to get on top of his opponent and force an arm lock which was so intense it forced his beleaguered opponent tap out.

After the fight Chunky told a Herald reporter:

“I am delighted with the win, and the fact that the boys travelled up to watch me. I owe a lot to Antonio who is a great trainer and I couldn’t have done it without him. Also I would like to thank everyone at Pembrokeshire Kick-boxing Gym. I am really chuffed that the Pembrokeshire Herald has taken an interest in this fight, Thank you for your support ”

This is a new sport for the Herald to report on, and we will be following Chunky’s fights in the future so keep reading the ever growing sports pages.
