Seagulls soar on the road

Aberaeron 3
Fishguard 34

PROMOTION favourites Fishguard and Goodwick travelled to Parc Drefach, to face an Aberaeron side, who only had the bare fifteen, and no front row.

Because of this, Aberaeron were always likely to be in for a difficult encounter, and so it proved despite a sterling defensive effort from the entire home squad.

The first half had been a relatively even contest with the Seagulls points coming from winger Sam Kurtz, who continued his good form with an unconverted try, along with skipper Simon James who broke no less than 4 tackles on his way to the try line, James Griffiths adding the extras.

The home side replied with a well struck penalty from Sion Evans, the scrum half also coming close with another long range attempt.

The score remained 12 – 3 until half time.

After the break, Fishguard showed intent and scored three quick tries; another for Kurtz along with other winger Ed Bendall and blindside flanker Mark George, in quick succession to guarantee the winning bonus point.

The home side were dealt a tough blow as influential captain Gethin Hughes aggravated an old knee injury midway through the half.

The Seagulls held their defence firm as Aberaeron kept the ball tight and drove up the field, but some quick hands after a turn over, allowed Fishguard centre Ben John to cross the whitewash for his try in the last move of the game.
