Swifts earn bragging rights

MONKTON Swifts earned the bragging rights on Saturday (Mar 2) as they cruised to a 9-0 win over rivals Pennar Robins.

With title rivals Goodwick in action in the West Wales Cup it was a perfect opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points and they did just that.

Top scorer James Russell, Ben Steele, Martin Carroll and Dylan Davies all scored in the first half as they home side led 4-0 at the break despite the tough conditions.

Blake James then scored in the second half to make it 5-0 and Steele grabbed two more goals to complete his hat trick as they continued to put the pressure on.

Goal: James Russell fires in

Steele grabbed Monkton’s sixth as he knocked the ball in although the final touch appeared to come off a Pennar player.

If there was any doubt about his second goal there was no doubt about his third as Russell lobbed the ball forward before blasting the ball into the back of the net from over 30 yards.

Pennar were then forced to play the remained of the game with ten men as one of their players went off with an injury.

That didn’t stop Monkton as Russell fired in to the bottom left corner from the edge of the box to make it 8-0.

Ryan Griffiths then saw a shot saved but he did grab the Swifts’ ninth late on as he tapped in from Steele’s cross.

It was an excellent win for the Swifts and on Saturday (Mar 9), they are away as they take on Saundersfoot Sports.

Pennar will look to get back to winning ways as they make the short trip across the bridge to Neyland.
