3,500 capacity indoor arena to be built in Swansea

AMBASSADOR THEATRE GROUP, who are behind 50 venues from Broadway to the West End, have been announced as operators of the new indoor arena set to be built in Swansea.

The 3,500 seater arena is part of the £500 million Swansea Central Development, as well as receiving partial funding from the Swansea Bay City Deal, and is set to be opened by 2020.

It is hoped that the build will play host to theatre, exhibitions, big name artists and conferences, with Council Leader Rob Stewart saying that ‘attracting a world-class established name like ATG will hopefully attract the country’s and the world’s biggest stars and shows.’

The project will start to build over the old St David’s Shopping Centre later this year, with the construction of multi-storey carparks, apartments and a hotel.

The deal was announced alongside the proposed transformation of the Civic Centre site into apartments and an aquarium, with a research centre for aquatic sciences, and the two ventures are aiming to create 1,700 permanent jobs.
