Court orders reporting restriction

Swansea crown court (1)ON DECEMBER 22, HHJ Heywood sitting at Swansea Crown Court made an order gagging the press. Section 4(2) of the Contempt of Court Act 1981 gives the court power to make orders postponing publication to avoid substantial risk of prejudice to the administration of justice in those proceedings or in other proceedings that are either pending or imminent. The order prohibits further reporting on legal proceedings arising from the death of Benjamin Bowen, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. But the case was widely reported previously in print, online, and via broadcast media before the order was made.
