No review into Hermon Chip shop death

A MULTI-AGENCY group will not be holding a review into the events surrounding the death of a woman at a Chip shop in Hermon.

Mavis Bran suffered burns to half of her body in October 2018 from boiling chip fat at her shop in Carmarthenshire.

It had been alleged that Mavis’ husband, Geoffrey, had thrown the fat over her but he was acquitted of her murder in 2019.

Mavis died six days after the incident but there will be no review into the case.

Although there is no conviction in this case, the review could still examine the death where domestic abuse has been alleged.

The Carmarthenshire Safer Communities Partnership (CSCP) decided it would look again at its decision not to hold a review after concerns from the campaign charity SafeLives.

Members of the CSCP have reconsidered and fully discussed the case, says it chairwoman councillor Ann Davies.

They have again decided that a domestic homicide review will not be taking place.

However, a group of people will look at key themes where practices can be improved in the group.

During the trial, the court heard how Mrs Bran had feared for her life whilst with her husband and that there had been a bad relationship between the two.
