Deadly explosion hits Armenia capital ahead of Cymru Euro qualifier

A devastating explosion has shaken the chemistry department building at Yerevan State University, claiming one life and injuring three others. The blast, investigated by authorities, occurred in the basement, prompting questions about safety and security in the wake of the incident.

Armenian authorities confirmed the unfortunate fatality and revealed that three individuals were hospitalised, one in a critical condition, suffering from burns and other injuries.

Amidst this tragedy, attention turns to the Cymru football team, currently in Armenia for their Euro 2024 qualifier preparations. Scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm UK time, the match holds additional weight as over 1,000 Welsh fans are expected to attend, with more travelling to the capital, regardless of ticket status.

Cymru manager, Rob Page, addressed concerns about safety, stating the Football Association of Wales (FAW) had communicated with UK government officials. “There has been nothing brought to our attention that we have to be concerned about. It’s all good, and we’re raring to go,” assured Page.
